SOLD House Calls Realty is proud to list a unique solar home in Black Forest, Colorado that was built in 1979. The home sits on a very private 2.5 acres of ponderosa pine forest.

I have never really seen anything quite like this house, it’s solar design circulates the air throughout the house keeping heating and cooling costs to an absolute minimum.

The home comes with a wood stove that can really heat it up during the occasional snow storm. I noticed the wall on the north side was actually over a foot thick, I guess it’s double walled to allow the air to move freely around the inside shell of the home.

There is a sunroom that cycles heats up and around the entire structure. The sunlight enters the home in the winter heating up the solar room. The warm air circulates up and around the entire house. Under the solar room there is a large crawl space space filled with rocks and water bottles to retain the heat or coolness and stabilize the temperature in the home. In the summer the eave over the deck stops the sun from heating the solar room up as much because of the angle of the sun keeping the home cooler.

This passive solar building design allows the occupant to stay warm in the winter and stay cool in the summer without much effort.
This deck is in front of the sunroom windows.
The owners kept adding to the home over many years. They added a nice master bedroom suite on the ground floor with a huge walk in closet and large window seat / bay window.

The home was bought over 23 years ago by an avid car collector who proceeded to add a 2 car car port with power,

then another 2 car car port with sliding doors and power was added. A few years later a huge pole barn was added.

The large pole barn adds about 1500 square feet of storage space. It measures about 24′ X 40′ on the bottom. It features a 12 X12 shop area and another cement pad work area. It has three sliding doors that can really open up the space. This barn has 220 power, is ready for a wood stove, and is well lit. The actual measurements I pulled on the pole barn were 39′ 4″ x 24′ or 936 square feet on the bottom and about 14 ‘ 5″ x 39’ 4″ 546 square feet of usable (not as slanted to low) storage space in the loft area.

The most recent addition added is a “Carriage House” that resembles an English cottage. It was basically a British car garage. The loft measures 17′ 5″ x 29′ or 500 square feet. Downstairs measures 21′ 2″ x 28′ 7″ or about 600 square feet so basically we are looking at 1100 square foot building. Originally the plans had a bathroom layed out in the south east corner and a small kitchenette in that area as well. As it stands it makes a good studio, garage, one couple called it a rumbas room, I think they envisioned a pool table in there. The bathroom and kitchenette were never installed. It has a separate 200 amp service and has 220 readily available.

It has room to park a few cars on it’s down stairs cement floor, there is also a loft that is almost finished and heated in the building.
This Black Forest home is currently listed for $345,000.00. It has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms and an attached 2 car garage, a sauna, hot tub hook up, and all of the outbuildings described above. For more information or a private showing please contact us.
